Ibanez AFL

18 May 2010 No Comment
The Ibanez AFL auto filter is a part of the Master Series (L) effects pedals. They were produced during 1985 and 1986, but while Ibanez has reproduced some of their other series, the Master Series (L) pedals have not been reissued as of 2011. That doesn’t mean there aren’t any AFL’s out there, but you may have difficulty finding one.

The AFL looks very similar to the AF 201 and AF9, but it isn’t exactly the same device. It features three different control switches: Filter, Drive, and Range. You can set Filter to lowpass or bandpass. The Drive control lets you decide if the filter sweep is going upwards or downwards, while the Range control selects the frequency range of either high or low. There are also two slider bards for Sensitivity and Peak. Slide Sensitivity up and the pedal will trigger the effect more often, while pushing Peak to the max will boost your center frequency.

Back when they were first produced, the AFL usually retailed for around $130. Today, a used model will probably cost you around $200.
