EMMA Discumbobulator Envelope Filter

26 March 2010 No Comment

The EMMA Discombobulator Envelop Filter is one of the best vintage filters you’re likely to ever come across.  It has just the right amount of distortion and squawk you need without going overboard on anything.  It was designed to be able to deal with very fast playing, too, and it can keep up while still giving you strong chords.  It retails the full spectrum of tone from the original signal, and unlike some envelop filters, you won’t hear any volume peaks or dips.  The pedal literally oozes with wah.

The Discumbobulator features three controls: sensitivity, width, and attack.  These controls let you perfectly adjust your sound.  You’ll notice that the Discumbobulator tends to recreate Grateful Dead tones.  That’s because it’s based on Jerry Garcia’s famous Mutron III pedal.  You’ll get all that great warmth and analog sound that you hear on the best Grateful Dead albums.  You might wonder about the type of music, then.  While it’s true that the Discumbobulator might not be perfect for everyone, and it great for rock, funk, blues, and even jazz.

The EMMA Discumbobulator Envelope Filter retails for between $243 and $325.
